If you have never tried a Moscow Mule with whisky instead of vodka, you are in for a treat. While vodka tends to rely on other cocktail ingredients to do the heavy lifting flavour-wise, a whisky mule benefits from the complex flavour profile of the whisky itself.

The mule family of cocktails (also referred to as bucks) are traditionally made with ginger ale or ginger beer, citrus juice, and spirits. It is believed that the buck originated from the Horse’s Neck, which was traditionally an alcohol-free drink with ginger ale or ginger beer and lime juice. Adding a kick of whisky caused the horse to “buck”, hence the name. You can make a mule with whisky, vodka, rum, bourbon, gin, mezcal, or cider. Naturally, our favourite is the whisky mule.
While the copper mug is not mandatory, it is both beautiful and chills your beverage perfectly. Not to mention, any chance you get to serve cocktails in a mug with a handle is a bonus.
The addition of lemonade in our SpicedCanadian Mule is a further twist on the Moscow Mule recipe with rye whisky and lends a touch more sweetness. For those who prefer ginger beer’s fiery bite at full strength, freshly squeezed lemon juice can be used instead of lemonade.
