Who are we?

From the beginning, we decided to do Canadian whisky differently. Founded in 1972 by Otto Rieder, the Grimsby Distillery opened its doors with a vision to challenge, innovate, and connect with whisky drinkers and our fans. With Niagara's abundance of tender fruits as our inspiration, we crafted eau de vie and Alpenbitter, honoring traditions while forging a new path in Canadian whisky. In 1992, under the visionary leadership of our founder John Hall and Master Blender Bill Ashburn, Forty Creek embarked on a relentless pursuit of a better whisky, challenging the status quo and carving out a bold new path. Our commitment to excellence led to the birth of Barrel Select in 2000, a game-changer in Canadian whisky, followed by Copper Bold in 2007, pushing the boundaries even further. In 2014, Forty Creek joined the Campari Group, ushering in a new era of innovation and excellence. Named Whisky Maker of the Decade in 2020, Forty Creek continues to shape the future of Canadian whisky, honoring our rich heritage while embracing innovation and change.
